XJW Recovery Group
A supportive space for former Jehovah’s Witnesses

Gather, share and heal with other ex-Jehovah's Witnesses

The XJW Recovery Group is an online monthly event where ex-Jehovah’s Witnesses come together to:

🌿 Share stories and lived experiences

🌿 Offer encouragement and support

🌿 Explore the nuances and challenges of leaving the organization

🌿 Connect with others who understand

This group isn’t about pushing an agenda, and it’s definitely not a place for debating the theology of Jehovah’s Witnesses, as happens in some online spaces. It’s about creating a safe, compassionate community that honors your experience and helps you reconnect with your own truth and inner authority.

What to Expect

Each session will focus on a theme related to JW healing and recovery, with time for guided introspection and group sharing. This is a wisdom circle where we share our stories and insights as we learn from one another. There’s so much we can explore together, like:

• Navigating relationships with loved ones still in the organization

 • Letting go of shame and guilt from being disfellowshipped

 • Learning how to live in the world (and not feel like a freak)

 • Tuning into your own wisdom

 • Building trust in yourself again

My XJW Story 🦋

I grew up in the Jehovah’s Witnesses and was disfellowshipped nearly 32 years ago. At the time, I thought it was over when I left. I thought I was finally free and could do whatever I wanted and be who I dreamed of being. What I didn’t realize was how much of it still lived in me. The voices, the rules, the fear. Leaving was only the first act of freedom.

For years I carried shame, self-doubt, and the fear that I would never fully find my place in the world. It took years of learning, unlearning, and slowly building important skills I never learned as a Jehovah's Witness to trust myself again, to know what my truth was, and to create a life that felt aligned to who I am.

Today, my life is filled with meaning and purpose. I have deep, loving relationships, an ongoing compassionate conversation with myself and the freedom to follow my dreams. The journey has not been simple or linear, but it has been ✨ so worth it.✨

If you are on this path, please know you are not alone. Healing does and will happen with time. Community and real lasting friendships exist beyond the confines of Jehovah's Witnesses. You can be happy, fulfilled and even thrive in your life outside of the organization.

That’s why I created the XJW Recovery Group-- a safe and encouraging space to remind each other of what is really true. 💖

Your sister,
Dawn

You've got questions...

I’m not a Jehovah’s Witness. Can I join?
No, this group is specifically for ex-JWs. There is a unique language and culture within the JW experience, and this space is designed for those who have lived it. If you are recovering from religious trauma in general, please explore The Haven, which is open to all high control religous groups.

I haven’t left the Jehovah’s Witnesses yet, but I’m planning my exit. Can I join?
Yes. Many find it supportive to connect with others who are already outside the organization. This group can help you prepare for the journey ahead and give you a sense of community during the transition.

What’s the difference between the XJW Recovery Group and The Haven?
The XJW Recovery Group is my way of giving back to my brothers and sisters who are still finding their way after leaving the Jehovah’s Witnesses. It’s a supportive monthly space specifically for ex-JWs to share stories, connect, and heal together. The Haven, on the other hand, goes deeper into somatic and energy healing, introspection work, and mindfulness techniques to support anyone healing from high-control religous groups-- not just former JWs.

I have other questions. Who can I ask?
Email me at [email protected] and I'll be happy to answer your questions about the group.
